Let it never be said that any two atheists will answer questions about their atheism in exactly the same way. Case in point: In the first chapter of “Atheist Universe“, David Mills gives himself an “interview” in which he explains all about atheism. If I may, I’d like to engage in a little rebuttal and commentary.

I recently had the opportunity to buy and read David Mills‘ book Atheist Universe. I know Mr. Mills (and his book) by reputation from Internet Infidels and I was interested in seeing what all the hype (actually, in most cases, self-promotion) was about.
Most books about atheism (or at least, most of the ones that I’ve read) are dry and boring and concern themselves mostly with logical fallacies, discussing and refuting the standard arguments for the existence of a deity, and general philosophical stuff. Not my idea of a good read. Atheist Universe, thankfully, is none of those things. It is written with the layman in mind, but even though Mills would probably like to think that scores of theists (lukewarm ones — the fundies would rather throw this book on a bonfire than actually read it) will read this book and “give up the ghost”, as it were, I predict that the only people who will really get into this book and accept the things that he’s arguing for… are people who pretty much already have accepted the things he’s arguing for.
