Urgent: Somebody please feed Twiggy!
Wednesday, November 14th, 2007Former supermodel and “living legend” Twiggy gave an interview recently, but impending hypoglycemia caused her to say some pretty strange things:
The 56-year-old said there was no excuse for being obese and accused people of ‘horrendous’ over-eating.
Yet she also admitted there was too much pressure on young girls to be as skinny as she was when [...]

Appendix found to actually DO SOMETHING
Saturday, October 6th, 2007CNN: Purpose of appendix believed found
WASHINGTON (AP) — Some scientists think they have figured out the real job of the troublesome and seemingly useless appendix: It produces and protects good germs for your gut.
[...]
But sometimes the flora of bacteria in the intestines die or are purged. Diseases such as cholera or amoebic dysentery would [...]

Choosing a side
Monday, October 1st, 2007A few months ago I lamented about how I couldn’t figure out what side I’m supposed to be on with the whole “fat acceptance” thing because even though I do believe that nobody, but nobody, deserves to be discriminated against for things that are none of anybody else’s business (regardless of whether whatever it is [...]

Say, has anyone seen a pint of blood?
Wednesday, September 26th, 2007I seem to be missing one.
And, as always, my blood donation experience was full of adventure and hilarity. I always feel faint after giving blood (and am usually feeling less than 100% for the rest of the day), so I was concerned to find out that my blood pressure was 104/60 — and, because of [...]

Mattel recalls even more Chinese toys
Wednesday, September 5th, 2007Apparently, this is the third major toy recall in a month, and about the bazillionth Chinese product recall this year.
Mattel apologised for the new incident but the Chinese government insisted that people could still have “confidence” in Chinese-made products.
Uh huh. Apparently de Nile is now a river in China. It seems pretty obvious that [...]

‘Honesty List’ revisited
Thursday, August 30th, 2007Back in May I took an “honesty challenge” and listed ten reasons I wanted to lose weight. I spent most of the first part of this year in a bad place, and my list reflects that. But basically, my list was “health” (high cholesterol), “convenience” times two (difficulty finding clothing and bras), and “vanity” times [...]

There be changes afoot, or: HALP! I are stuck!
Wednesday, August 8th, 2007My weight loss has inexplicably stalled out at the 15-lb mark, despite saintly adherence to my diet (90% of the time) and faithful exercise (most days). I’m not regaining, though, and on an average of 1300 calories a day, I’m not concerned about that happening anytime soon. I seem to have reached what John Walker [...]
