From Barefoot Bum via Pharyngula: There Must Be Violence Against Women
If a man and woman are husband and wife, the Qur’an provides solutions, firstly reaffirming any logical and acceptable reasons for such punishment. These solutions are in gradual phases and not just for women, but for men also.

Despite such instructions, beating is considered a type of violence, according to human rights organizations, which urge women to complain to the police. I just wonder what kind of families our societies would have if Muslim women started doing this regarding their husbands.
Are you fucking kidding me? You can’t possibly imagine a world where husbands treat their wives as human beings, deserving of the same respect and treatment as they are? A world where — OMG! — people actually think beating the shit out of your wife is a BAD THING?
Things like this are why I don’t buy the “Islam is a religion of peace” propaganda anymore, even as much as I hate it when people seem to go out of their way to confirm my worst, most cynical, most pessimistic ideas about humanity and then some.
This is what happens when the idea that women are inferior, not quite human, little better than property, is allowed to persist. Cultural relativism be damned, THAT IDEA IS WRONG. PERIOD. It infuriates me that for most of the world, the concept that WOMEN ARE PEOPLE is still a difficult one to grasp.
