Satellite televisionImage via Wikipedia BBC: Saudi judge condemns ‘immoral TV’

The most senior judge in Saudi Arabia has said it is permissible to kill the owners of satellite TV channels which broadcast immoral programmes.

Sheikh Salih Ibn al-Luhaydan said some “evil” entertainment programmes aired by the channels promoted debauchery.

He was speaking in response to a listener who asked his opinion on the airing of programmes featuring scantily-dressed women during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Religion of peace?

My first thought on reading the bit on “scantily-clad” women on satellite channels was “define scantily-clad“. Sure, satellite and cable have a little bit more leeway than broadcast stations with regard to what they’re allowed to show, but it’s not like every show is softcore porn. Of course, to this asshole, any show that shows a woman doing anything other than wearing a burka and being meekly subservient probably qualifies as softcore porn.
