Stop me before I plugin again!
Thursday, February 28th, 2008Serial readers may notice that I’ve been fucking around with my theme again. Somewhere along the way I accidentally dropped it into a bucket full of bells and whistles!
I fished it out, but a few of these flashy thingies and whatsits got stuck on.
What’s new:
- Comment Luv: Now, if you have a blog and you put its address in the URL field when you comment, Comment Luv will add a link to your last blog post at the end of your comment to give you some “link love”.
- NoFollow Free: But what good would comment link love be if WordPress were allowed to stick a “nofollow” attribute on it, thus preventing search engines from indexing it? Not very, that’s what! If you have at least three previously approved comments, any links in your comments have their “nofollow”s removed.
- WP_MonsterID: Avatars! And not just any avatars: Monster avatars! This plugin automatically generates a unique random monster for each commenter’s email address (which means that comment from the same person has the same monster, unless they change their email address). It also supports Gravatars, so if you don’t like your monster or have another image you want to use instead, get a Gravatar and it will replace your monster. (I think I’m going to turn Gravatar support off, though, ’cause you guys all have these cool monster avatars and I’ve just got my mutant chicken and now I’m jealous.)

Cool! I like the new look. Black is the new… wait a minute, that doesn’t sound right. Still, nice decorating job
Oh no. I just read the requirements to get a comment approved.
Not that I was planning to threaten physical violence to you — or to anyone else for that matter — but you want comments to show intelligence?
I’m screwed.

Hi, Merry!
That’s mostly there so I have an iron-clad excuse to delete brain-dead comments (like people babbling incoherently about how their invisible friend is going to send me to hell, or writing in “teen speak” :P). I’ll probably rephrase it after I’m sure the threat of Crazy Muslim Armageddon is completely gone. -

Whew! If you’re lowering the bar, there’s less chance I’ll trip over it.
Except I should clarify: I posted the Random Friday post, but Crabby McSlacker is the one who dug up all the inappropriate-yet-funny videos and wrote up all the good stuff.

The plugin doesn’t know the difference, I’m afraid — it just grabs the last one from the feed. I don’t think it makes any attempt to check for multiple authors.

Glad you like the monsters. I was wondering how they’d look on a dark background. Seems pretty good. Let me know if you run into any problems or have any suggestions.
