Friendly holiday reminder: God hates Christmas trees!

Thursday, December 20th, 2007

Jeremiah 10:2-4: “Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.”

You heard the man. Maybe you should leave the heathen customs to us heathens and do a little praying instead. In secret, of course:

Matthew 6:5-6: “And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.”

  1. If only everyone followed the Bible!

  2. Maybe this will cause American Christian extremists to stop complaining whenever retailers refer to “Holiday trees”. The trees are part of Christmas only to the extent that the holiday ignores Christianity and instead favours an odd mix of paganism and modern consumerism.

  3. Karen has been saying this for freakin’ years. It drives her crazy that so many people think public prayer is the only form of legitimate prayer.

Interesting fact: Puritans had closet sized rooms in their homes for the purpose of prayer. And I wonder where they got that idea.

    Whatever
