Oh noes, ‘War on Christmas’

Tuesday, November 28th, 2006

It’s that time of year again. Don Kroah of Townhall.com has spewed the following:
While Wal-Mart has apparently seen the error of its ways (or at least of its bad business judgment) and done an about-face from last year’s ban on employees’ use of the words Merry Christmas in greeting customers, the war on public celebration [...]

Things I’d like to see on House

Friday, November 24th, 2006

House gets a nemesis that isn’t a one-dimensional power-mad lunatic.
House gets his brains back. Where oh where has my competent, logical House gone?
House and Wilson’s lawyers pull their heads out of their asses and realize that Tritter has no legal right to do any of the things he’s doing.
Actually, you know what would be cool? [...]

Dvorak really is a thing of beauty

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

So, it’s been a month since I switched to Dvorak, and I’m approaching my old qwerty speed just from the practice I get from my everyday typing. My qwerty skills have utterly tanked, but I don’t care. Practically everything about Dvorak makes a million times more sense than qwerty ever did! Vowels and commonly-used consonants [...]

These are the commands I know I know, these are the commands I know

Saturday, November 11th, 2006

I keep hearing people complain that “Grandma” or “Aunt Tilly” can’t use Linux because it’s a command-based OS (let’s just ignore the misconception that Linux has no GUI for the time being…) and they would have to learn a bunch of commands to do anything.
I like the command line, actually. It makes me feel l33t, [...]

This argument needs to die

Wednesday, November 8th, 2006

From some idiot on Facebook via Internet Infidels:
In a nutshell, if you’re an atheist, you have more faith than me - a follower of Christ. Here’s why:
Do you think that we have even one percent of all the knowledge in the universe? Probably not. The universe is so huge and so much is unknown, that [...]

Windows users: Watch and be afraid

Saturday, November 4th, 2006

Someone on UbuntuForums posted a link to this McAffee advertisement in which an IE user visits goggle.com and is totally wtfpwnd. Scores of Ubuntu users (including yours truly) naturally responded by visiting the site themselves in Firefox, and came away completely unscathed.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why friends don’t let friends use IE.
